But how can this happen? These are "natural" products. It is far past the time that people believe "Natural" and "supplements" means safe.

With more illegal drugs off of the streets people are turning to abuse prescription drugs. Not surprising that overdose deaths are increasing.

If doctors were paid to spend time with patients then I am sure they would be more empathetic. Unfortunately, they are paid by how many patients they see.

Sounds like the PHARMA agreement that drug companies made in 2002 to try to regulate themselves before congress got involved. Now Lilly is just doing it themselves. Watch for more to jump on board. Self-regulation is better than having congress on your butt.

Heparin dosing protocols are easy to put in place. All hospitals should have one.

Seems like pretty good pressure to me. Why use one companies "me too" ACE-inhibitor when generic alternatives are available.

I very strong agree with Shadowfax on this. Patient care comes first.

I'd be all for changing in and out of hospital-provided scrubs, but aside from the OR/L&D/Cath Lab this isn't a possibility at current.
Also, hospital scrubs are remarkably generic and while I'm not one for funky colors or patterns, I do enjoy a pair of scrub pants that is tailored not to fit a family of clowns in the top while being of appropriate length, and a cargo pocket or two to store things.

I agree with you Strong. It is about common sense, courtesy, and respect.

I suppose they aren't any different than physicians, family members, and administrators wearing "street" clothes into a hospital or clinic. I am "old school" enough to worry about "scrubs" coming from the "street" into the OR and vice versa. I don't want my dog's hair to follow me into the OR, nor do I want to bring home blood stained (other fluid stained) scrubs to wash with my families clothing.

Well, the UK health service doesn't seem to think that bacteria in doctors' clothes affects hospital infections, but opinion seems to be different in the US. The New York Times has published an article saying that there is insufficient evidence to confirm whether or not doctors' clothes are a reservoir for germs.

I feel if we can follow the rules of HIPAA, not only in person at our place of employment, but also in the blogosphere. We just need to adhere and follow the same rules, regulations, and interventions we use during our days in the health care world.

This actually provides some god insight. I thought that it was going to be very negative based on the title but it is actually real-life stuff.

"older, experienced nurses expressed more emotional sensitivity than younger, inexperienced nurses" .... Funny how confidence and learning time management can foster the ability of being able to do more than rush around tallying I&O's before the end of your shift! :)

It's hard to avoid BPA, but there are things you can do... stop drinking out of plastic bottles (tap is just as good, honestly... especially if you put it in an aluminum container. But then I guess you have to worry about Alzheimer's Disease). You could use glass. I gave my kiddo formula in bottles that have BPA in them and they are going out the door. Next time around I'm using glass bottles or those without BPA. I've been hearing about this chemical for quite awhile now.
I think humans are our own worst enemy!

OMG, I thought Romania was one of the worst medical countries, but there the abortion limit is 14 weeks...
At 28 weeks it's considered premature birth.
24 weeks for legal abortion is huge!

I just wonder one thing:
in the clinical trials which will follow, will they just wait 4 hours if the patient is in the hospital after 2 hours? Just for testing the results? I guess this is a problem of ethics...

An interesting study to expand the window for systemic thrombolysis in stroke patients. However, it doesn't look like the late treatment groups were as sick as the traditional patients. Administration of intracranial TPA should help push the window further out as well.
